Affiliate Marketing Blogs I Read

by Paul on November 15, 2010

in Affiliate Marketing

I don’t read a ton of affiliate marketing blogs, because I feel like most of them are written by affiliates how haven’t made a dime in the industry.  However, there are a couple really saavy fellows out there that do know what they are talking about, and it helps to get the creative ideas going by reading.  So here’s who I like and why:

ShoeMoney.com - Gotta love the Shoe, if for nothing else than entertainment value.  He definitely knows what he is doing, but I’m not sure that he’s the most helpful for the newbie.  A lot of the guest authors write about affiliate techniques that are fairly advanced (like the recent one about how to write an informational product).  Don’t get me wrong, I love the information it’s just hard to put into practice sometimes.

UberAffiliate.com - He doesn’t write that often but if you want to learn about affiliate marketing then I would highly suggest going back through his article archives, there is some really good information.  In addition he has compiled one of the VERY BEST affiliate resources on the website in his Affiliate Marketing Guide.

AffBuzz.com - This is a nice compilation of RSS feeds on the top Affiliate Marketing Blogs out there.  If nothing else, sometimes I’ll go here to see if anybody has written something interesting.  Affbuzz is a good way to have your bases covered if you don’t want to go to all of the individual affiliate blogs.

KeywordSpy Review

by Paul on November 8, 2010

in Affiliate Marketing,Reviews,Tips

I’ve been using KeywordSpy for about 3 years now and all in all it’s a pretty handy tool.  Keywordspy is not necessarily a groundbreaking tool (there are a ton of keyword suggestion tools out there), so much as a hammer in a toolbox.  You need Keywordspy because it’s where you should start all your PPC campaigns.  By using their keyword or URL keyword tool you’ll have a nice list of 1000′s of keywords to start your PPC campaign with.  As an affiliate why toil over hours and hours of keyword brainstorming when what you really need to do is get a campaign up and running.

I won’t go into the whole itty bitty details of why you should use KeywordSpy, but instead I’ll just tell you how I use it.  Lets say the affiliate campaign that I want to run is for shoe retailer, all I have to do is go to KeywordSpy and enter in the URL “Zappos.com”.  Hit enter and up pops about 100,000 keywords that they are bidding on, keywords they rank for organically, their top competitors, and the approximate click volume that those keywords get.  I emphasize “approximate” because it is definitely a floating, not to be wholly depended upon, estimate.  Continuing on, I download the list, put in another URL like “shoes.com” and repeat the process.  In about 10 minutes I have a working list of 100,000+ keywords and I’m ready to start trimming the fat, and really narrowing down the keywords I want to use.  If you’ve been following my advice at all, that means getting rid of any super-low volume keywords.

There are a ton of other keyword tools out there, but KeywordSpy has been around for just about the longest, so until someone comes out with something truly game-changing KeywordSpy will definitely be in my toolbox.  Like I said, not going to make you 1000′s of dollars overnight, but will save you 100′s of hours in which you can use to make 1000′s of dollars.

Affiliate Tip – Check Your Stats Twice a Day

November 4, 2010

I actually wanted to rename this post, “Don’t be crazy obsessive over your affiliate stats”, but I kind of liked the ambiguous nature of this headline.  If you are an affiliate old or new, I know that you’ve got checking stats affiliate syndrome.  I’m guilty of this as well, sometimes on a newly launched campaign [...]

Amazon Affiliate Program Review

November 1, 2010

Ahh, the big bad affiliate program on the internet.  The largest mainstream (sale) affiliate programs year after year are Amazon and eBay, and you can probably guess why.  I know both affiliate programs pretty well, and can say with confidence that you can definitely earn a 6-figure income from either of the two affiliate programs.  [...]

Affiliate Tip Friday – What Position Should I Be Bid For

October 29, 2010

I don’t even know why I decided to call it Affiliate Tip Friday, other than I like the idea that if I haven’t given out a halfway decent tip the entire week at least I’ll make sure to do one on Friday. I got my start as an affiliate doing search marketing as my main [...]

Affiliate Network Tracking Methods

October 28, 2010

In the end all I care about is, are my campaigns profitable and is the affiliate network that I’m working with playing it straight with me.  So after being in the business for a while you get a feel for if an affiliate manager knows their stuff, or if they are just bs’ing you.  One [...]

How to Apply to an Affiliate Network and Get Accepted

October 27, 2010

I was tempted to name this post, “Help, I keep getting rejected by affiliate networks!”, because I know that’s really what most new affiliates have issues with.  As a new affiliate with no earnings history, a big fat zero bar for a CJ publisher rank, and no inside track with an affiliate manager, it is [...]

How to Choose an Affiliate Program

October 26, 2010

If only we could all pick the magical affiliate program that would yield massive amounts of profit the first time. Instead, us affiliate marketers have to go through 100′s of offers before we might find a winner. I would say that this is the #1 reason that most beginning affiliate marketers quit the industry. They [...]

Top 10 Affiliate Networks

October 25, 2010

Sadly there are not 10 affiliate networks that I can honestly recommend.  Most super affiliates (if that’s even what they call themselves, I prefer fulltime affiliate marketers), use at a max 5 affiliate networks.  The reason is quite simply that I don’t have enough time to go over 100′s of offers from 10 different affiliate [...]

How to Succeed in Affiliate Marketing

October 23, 2010

If that isn’t a headline I don’t know what is.  I’ve been an affiliate marketer going on about 5 years now, and have seen the industry change in sooo many different ways.  Gone are the days of just throwing up a direct linked affiliate offer on Google or Yahoo or MSN.  Though you might argue [...]
